'Don Juan in Soho' Brighton Little Theatre June 2014
'Don Juan in Soho' Brighton Little Theatre, June 2014. Dir. Leigh Ward
"Written by Patrick Marber of play/film ‘Closer’ fame, this contemporary portrayal of famous libertine Don Juan is a rude, fun, eloquent but slightly befuddled play. The performers were superb, injecting passion and humour into the characters, who sadly often acted in strange unbelievable ways, although such hyperreality and farce could have been intentional. Cicely Whitehead in particular was convincing in capturing both the sadness and sexual awakening in Don Juan’s spurned wife. The staging and lighting was brilliant, with lurid club-like lighting and Lada Gaga cues supporting the modern, hedonistic mood perfectly. An exciting and enjoyable play, impressively acted in spite of the shallow source material" - Joe Fuller, The Latest.
